SIBU: The Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) together with the police will be enforcing new ruling on social distancing at shopping premises and private clinics, beginning tomorrow (March 24).

According to SMC chairman Clarence Ting, shopping premises cover supermarkets, mini markets, convenient stores and pharmacies during the movement control order (MCO) period.

“SMC and the police will enforce the following rules – supermarkets, mini markets, convenient stores, pharmacies and private clinics – (to have a) big display (1-metre distance) on social distancing at entrance; set up crowd control outside, so that inside the premises will not be too crowded for shoppers; and cashier counters to have social distancing markers (1-metre) clearly marked,” he said yesterday.

Ting added that from March 24, all business’ opening hours will be from 7am till 7pm.

“We urge everyone in Sibu to please take note,” he said.

Meanwhile, in his Facebook post yesterday, he praised supermarkets such as Daesco for responding to the call for crowd control, adding that there was also temperature checks.
