KUCHING: A photography contest ‘This Is My Home, Sibu’ is offering a total of RM20,000 cash prizes to winners.

Organised by Sarawak New Media Generation Association, participants must submit their photographs before or on June 20.

This contest is the sequel of ‘Sibu – My Home’ angpow set launched last Lunar New Year and the recently launched video ‘Sibu – My Home’, the organiser said in a media release yesterday.

It is supported by two Sibu-born veteran political leaders Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, who is Minister of International Trade and E-Commerce and Second Finance Minister and Datuk Tiong Thai King, chairman of Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).

Photography enthusiasts are invited to capture the beauty of Sibu to present images that will bring back the sweet memories of individuals who are outside the central town to pursue their career.

“The affection of the people of Sibu can be comprehended only by their own kind. Regardless of how far-off one has travelled, Sibu remains my home sweet home.

“There the Rajang River has witnessed the growth and success of many. This is my home – Sibu,” pointed out that statement.

Meanwhile, the video that focuses on the proximity and warmth of the community in Sibu has received encouraging responses from those outside the town.

It features the Visit Sibu Year 2017 as well as other major programmes and annual activities that took place in Sibu last year.

Similarly, the contest aims at getting more people to explore the traits of Sibu – warm and tender – towards thinning out criticism and blind pursuit to bring the community closer.

It is hoped that more people would express their positive feelings for Sibu.

“The scenery everywhere is equally beautiful for as long as one puts in efforts to groom it. In fact, the most beautiful element a town can offer would be none other than its culture and human touch.

“Sibu is capable of seeing further development in future. More importantly, everyone has to stay united while young people drive their passion towards the betterment of the town,” the statement asserted.

The contest, open to all Sarawakians, is divided into five categories namely Sibu Landmark, Sibu Lifestyle, Sibu Culture, Sibu Events and Sibu Food.

Photographs will be judged based on the theme, visual appeal, creativity, relevance and originality.

First prize in each category is RM2,000 followed by second prize (RM1,000), third prize (RM500) and five consolation prizes of RM100 each.

Participants can email their entries to emediasarawak@gmail.com with subject line ‘This Is My Home, Sibu Photo Competition’ followed by the category.

They should include their full name (Mandarin and English), IC, contact number, address, photo caption and photo location.

All submitted entries, with sizes between 3MB and 10MB, must not have any frames, logos, copyright marks or any other visible references.

There is no limit to the number of entries a participant can submit.

The contest is sponsored by Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), SMC, Rancangan Sibu 1 (RS1) and University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS).
