SIBU: It is of utmost importance to build a strong and cohesive Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) team in order for them to carry out duties and obligations to the satisfaction of customers.

According to Dudong assemblyman Datuk Tiong Thai King, who is also SMC chairman, what works in an organisation in reaching its goal does not come from an individual, but it is through integrated teamwork.

In his welcoming remarks during SMC’s ‘Celebration of Integrity cum Family Day 2018’ at Lake Garden here on Saturday, he said the council has 32 councillors and more than 500 employees across various categories.

‘We hardly meet every day, or get to know one another. Although the employees are assigned to various sections and units to deal with different functions, it is important for us to work like a big family.

“However, today is a day for celebration, no matter what your religion or your culture is.

“Cherish your human connections. Always try to be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud. In reality, family is like music – there are high notes, some low notes, but it’s always a beautiful song.

“No family is perfect. Sometimes we argue, we fight – we even stop talking to one another at times. But in the end, family is family.”

Tiong said to be a joyful family, it would require all family members to serve one another.

He said the family day event would help foster closer rapport among all staff members and subsequently, strengthen the teamwork within the organisation.

Tiong said he enjoyed working with all SMC staff members since he took over the chairmanship of the council.

“Although we have had some ups and downs in our efforts to develop the town and keep it clean, beautiful and orderly, we have great job satisfaction whenever we see Sibu town today as a place where people can live, work and play comfortably,” he added.

Various awards were presented to outstanding SMC personlle during the event.

Tiong, his councillors and other staff members later took the corruption-free pledge.
