SIBU: Motorists who want to know whether they have been compounded for any traffic-related offence should go to the Sibu Municipal Council’s (SMC) website.

SMC chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King said during the full board meeting that many compounds had not been paid.

He said notices had been served to the offenders but those who wanted to know whether they had received a summons should log on to www.smc.gov.my to check.

Tiong advised offenders to settle their summonses to prevent further action by the council.

Separately, he appealed to the public not to vandalise public property such as trees, parks and traffic lights.

“We observed some facilities had been damaged due to construction work or vandalised deliberately.

“We need to instil a sense of ownership so that everyone feels responsible to care for these amenities,” he added.

Tiong also highlighted the increasing number of illegal advertisements in the form of banners and signboards at public places.

He said action would be taken against the individuals responsible under the Local Authority (Advertisements) By-Law 2012.

He advised those wanting to put up advertisements to apply for a permit from the council.
