SIBU: Traders at the temporary market along Khoo Peng Loong Road here are urged to ensure good hygiene and cleanliness.

In making the call, Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) deputy chairperson Rogayah Jamain, stressed that this is the same requirement imposed on other food handlers.

“They are to maintain a good level of cleanliness and hygiene on food handling and preparation.

“Additionally, they are strictly not to throw anything into the river,” she pointed out.

There are 16 traders altogether at the temporary stalls, according to Rogayah.

The traders are temporarily relocated to the site – opposite the road, to facilitate upgrading works on the decades old Khoo Peng Loong Market.

She disclosed that the traders have moved to the temporary stalls last Monday.

Khoo Peng Loong Road Market is a popular eating place for express boat passengers.

The Kapit Wharf is located just opposite the market.

Express boats plying the downriver routes, namely Passin, Daro, Igan and Pulau Bruit, are berthed at this wharf.
